Hey, y’all! Again, it’s been a minute since I’ve sat down and wrote a blog post for you. Last time I wrote I said I was a once a month blogger, and that seems to be holding true. I typically wait until I have the perfect words to write about. This time I’m in Arizona visiting family with my girls. When you travel there is a good amount of down time on an airplane and during layovers that gives you plenty of time to think. That is exactly where my thoughts for this blog post occurred. Actually, on Wednesday night before I flew out, Hannah and I were driving downtown Omaha back to our hotel room. We passed a billboard with a perfect Bible scripture on it. “Blessed is the man that perseveres under trial,” James 1:12. I immediately thought, WOW! I needed to read that scripture, and I had to share it with a friend that is going through a trial in his own life. This scripture has been stuck in my mind since I read it on that billboard sign.
I often wonder why God sends us certain scriptures, and then He makes us sit and wait for the answer of why He sent it to us. So, why this scripture God? I’ve sat on it for the last two and a half days, and asked Him for answers why. Why would a scripture about persevering through trials be so important to me during this time in my life? In the past several weeks I’ve spent an ample amount of time reflecting on my personal growth in this new season of my life. I’ve been faced with a significant amount of trials the past two and a half years in my life. The greatest trial that I faced was going through a divorce, and learning to transition to a new season in life of being a single momma to my three babies. Additionally, I was faced with learning how to overcome new challenges that I would face as a single woman. These challenges included learning how to deal with construction delays, preparing my first born for college alone, disciplining sassy teens alone, big financial decisions, and a multitude of more demanding tasks. The truth is, I enjoy going through these trials as they have given me the opportunity to truly grow as an independent woman.
Which brings me to climbing that mountain. It takes an excessive amount of energy to climb a mountain to it’s summit. Who doesn’t want to hike until you’ve reached the summit, or the highest point of elevation of a mountain? The air is cool and fresh, but the views are breathtaking. You can climb for hours, sweating, thirsting, hungry to reach that peak, and when you finally make it to the top its a feeling of relief, success, and complete accomplishment. You step up into that peak and overlook the path that you’ve just taken. You look back at the obstacles that you just faced, and you are in complete and utter awe of your bodies ability to do what it just did. See y’all, life is much like climbing a mountain to it’s summit. You will be faced with trials throughout the course of your life. These trials may cause you to feel wreckless, unaccomplished, unwanted, useless, and saddened just to name a few. Let me tell you though, these trials are what develops you into the person you are today. You may feel that your trials are never going to end. It’s like climbing that mountain and wondering if you will ever reach the summit.
Truth is y’all, we will all reach the top of our lives one day, and we will be able to live at the top for as long as our minds allow us to do so. See, the top is reached through happiness and perseverance. If you persevere through the trials with your faith in God, your ability to reach that summit will come much more quickly than when you leave out your faith. God is on the side of those who trust Him through the most difficult moments in life. Our faith grows stronger when it is tested through trials.
Reaching that peak of happiness in life is the most refreshing point in life. It’s like reaching that y’all summit after the climb. You are going to be faced with trials throughout your life; however, the key to happiness is to not allow the trials of life suck your happiness away. Have faith in Christ, and the quality of your life will be much more fulfilled. Do what makes you happy, y’all.
